Everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live

Mission:

Habitat for Humanity brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership

Vision:

A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.

About Habitat for Humanity Victoria

Habitat for Humanity Victoria is a registered charity that brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. Founded in 1990, Habitat Victoria has built 23 homes locally and served 27 families.

Habitat Victoria builds decent housing in order to provide working families with access to affordable homeownership in the Capital Region. Our Homeownership Program is open to people from all cultures and faiths.

Habitat for Humanity Victoria is a member of Habitat for Humanity Canada and one of 55 Affiliates in ten provinces and two territories.

How does Habitat for Humanity work?

Through volunteer labour, efficient management and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat for Humanity builds safe, decent and affordable houses alongside the future homeowner. Each family invests 500 hours of their own labour into the building of their home and the homes of others. Habitat houses are sold to qualified families at fair market value and are financed with affordable mortgages. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund, which is used to build more homes.

A 2014 study revealed that Habitat for Humanity initiated $39 million in social benefit through its Canadian housing program. Every $1 invested produces a $4 return to society. Worldwide, Habitat for Humanity has improved shelter conditions for over a million people, helping one family every 11 minutes.
