What was your inspiration?
Growing up in Victoria the breakwater has held special meaning to each of us. It represents our life here, time spent walking, talking, thinking, visiting, and reflecting in this place. Some of us spent time here as children, some spent time here with children, some with family, some with friends, some alone. The breakwater draws us to her and reminds us of the beauty of our surroundings. The wonder of the amazing Pacific Ocean brings the fresh air, a sense of community, watching people fish, enjoying the beach, traversing logs, feeling the security of the coast guard at the ready, watching cruise ships bring visitors to our city, and if we’re lucky we may catch a glimpse of our majestic wildlife. How long did you take to make your creation? Working separately, with hundreds of texts and photos exchanged, it’s tough to estimate but I’m thinking 100 hours collectively. What was the most challenging part? All of it! But mostly: sugar, sugar and more sugar. Powdered sugar, granulated sugar, brown sugar, hot sugar, burning sugar, save me from the sugar! None of us have ever made something like this before. What are you most proud of? That we actually did it and have a finished product! And we’re all still speaking! Did you use a unique ingredient or technique? Not unless shouting and crying count! |
