What was your inspiration?
My inspiration was the view of the ocean and mountains from places like Dallas Road Beach and East Sooke Park. It inspired me to think of how fortunate we are to be surrounded by so much beauty that is “in our backyard”. I decided to showcase this view of island life as if you were seeing it through your backyard window. How long did you take to make your creation? Planning took around 40 hours; I made several mock-ups out of cardboard first to get the proportions right. I made it in stages, starting with the interior of the house. Making it took approximately 10 days. What was the most challenging part? The most challenging part was working with isomalt for the windows and ocean which is something that I have never done before. What are you most proud of? I am most proud of the Christmas tree in the interior of the house. I love Christmas and it was exciting to decorate an edible tree! Did you use a unique ingredient or technique? A unique ingredient that I used was popcorn and candy melts for some of the bushes. |
