You should have an inline strainer post at the bottom of the gully if your fence dips into one. If you had a star picket, it would be ripped out completely due to the tension on the fence wire. The gully will be able to hold a strainer post tightly. Star pickets at the peak of a hill fall under this category as well. At the top of the hill, use an inline strainer post. By doing this, you may prevent the force of the stressed wire from pushing your post into the ground.
